18-11-2010 A Bit of Urban to your Ears

We love people who care about what they do: namely, making headphonesUrbanears is a collective from Scandinavia wanting to build global relationships with their brand, focusing on design, form and bringing people together to ‘transcend individuality and unify the sound experience’. Well that ‘sounds’ pretty good to us. Colour and form are crucial to the brand and their headphones reflect this: embodying that style of retro DJ we all aspire to casually possess. They are highly functional, fashionable and stylish; they also provide rich, secluded sound. To make matters more compact, it even folds down to the size of your fist, so you could say it truly packs a punch.

15-06-2010 Brightening up the Slums

A work of art can brighten the lives of individuals, especially if that art is bright and colourful. Such is the philosophy behind the initiatives of two community-driven art projects, Favela Painting in the slums of Rio de Janeiro and the Mumbai Wall Project in India. The voluntary project in Rio de Janeiro is run by the Firmeza Foundation; its primary aim is to boost the morale of the people living there. The locals of Santa Marta were trained extensively and paid for a month’s work, giving the slum an incredible makeover. The idea behind this wonderful initiative comes from Dutch artist duo Hass & Hahn. Join their Facebook page and help them raise money to go back and finish the project.

14-04-2009 The Brightness of Books

Need something to make a room appear bright and welcoming? Try this idea and add excitement to your old and dusty book collection. Re-organise your bookshelf by colour and create a sort of book case installation. By simply dividing your books into separate colours, grouping them from lighter to darker shades, and arranging on the shelf by hue, you can add a new, uplifting and artistic feature to a room without the expense. Relax, read and enjoy!
