Andreas Fischler from Sakku | Eco Spot On

Eco

Ever wondered what goes on in the mind of Swiss pioneers? Trendspotting pitched a tent in the mind of Andreas Fischler from Sakku and discovered inspirations, inventions and some superpowers too. Sakku is the team behind the first solar powered messenger bag which allows you to charge your iPod, phone, GPS or digital camera as you move. The team at Sakku was founded in 2004 and is still in the early days of developing and selling products for mobile power supply. The idea for the revolutionary bag came from Andreas, who believes that every action no matter how small contributes towards improving our world.

Trendspotting: Who or what inspires you?
Andreas Fischler: I’m inspired by interesting people who do very interesting, creative things and go for new ideas by not just talking about it, but doing it at the same time.

Trendspotting: What is the greatest invention of all times and why?
Andreas Fischler: I think that the “greatest invention of all times” doesn’t exist, but there are several “greatest inventions” for their time in history and context in which the invention has been made. For example somewhere in history, someone was the first who invented a boat or thought about raising cattle instead of killing it immediately to eat it. That was the switch from thinking just in the present to at least for one year in the future.

Trendspotting: What invention would have been better off if it hadn’t been invented?
Andreas Fischler: Garbage: There is no such thing as garbage in nature. Nature shows us how to act for the perfect circuit of all resources we have. Garbage is just an invention of mankind which we would have been better off without.

Trendspotting: What are the three things you don’t leave the house without?
Andreas Fischler: My sakku solarbag with my notebook, my mobile phone and my keys.

Trendspotting: What was the last concert you saw?
Andreas Fischler: Portishead in Lausanne – quite a bit of time ago.

Trendspotting: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Andreas Fischler: I would like to have the superpower to change everyone’s mind who thinks in a short-terme destructive way to a long-term constructive minded thinking.

Trendspotting: What’s your favourite style of food?
Andreas Fischler: I like the traditional Swiss food like “Rösti” or “Fondue” or “Raclette” very much.

Trendspotting: If you could have dinner with any famous person, who would it be?
Andreas Fischler: Frederic Vester (and if the person has to be alive: Kofi Annan)

Trendspotting: What would you imagine the world to look like in 15 years from today?
Andreas Fischler: 20% electro cars, 50% green energy generation - most of it with solar power, 50% recycling, still very much hunger and to less clean water for many regions in the world.

Trendspotting: If you could chose any place to live in the world where would you want to live?
Andreas Fischler: That changes from time to time. At the moment I’d like to live in a megacity, such as New York, Shanghai or Buenos Aires. Later, I’m sure that I’d like to live again in Switzerland, in a small village out in the Nature. In fact, that’s what I’m doing right now and I like it.

Trendspotting: Is there anything else you want to share with the world?
Andreas Fischler: Don’t just think and talk about making the world better, do your little thing for it.
