These cleverly titled and formidable creations from Design for Use, known by their respective names, ‘History by the Meter’ and ‘Technology by the Meter’, are exemplary in literally showing how useful design can be. Each ruler set stretches out to two meters with a set theme of historic outlines. Filled with useful facts and compact in nature, they come in a vintage style complete with an overview of historical events and technological innovation. The only drawback might be whether you’re allowed to use them in history exams (we won’t tell if you won’t).

We love people who care about what they do: namely, making headphones. Urbanears is a collective from Scandinavia wanting to build global relationships with their brand, focusing on design, form and bringing people together to ‘transcend individuality and unify the sound experience’. Well that ‘sounds’ pretty good to us. Colour and form are crucial to the brand and their headphones reflect this: embodying that style of retro DJ we all aspire to casually possess. They are highly functional, fashionable and stylish; they also provide rich, secluded sound. To make matters more compact, it even folds down to the size of your fist, so you could say it truly packs a punch.

Keep paper where it should be with collectible, limited edition Woodland Animal paperweights from Mirjami Design. Individually handmade, these unique creations have their own look and come in the form of owls, mice and shrews. Made with British woollen fabrics and stuffed with recycled polyester and steel pellets to keep them settled on the page. Laura Mirjami has been creating animals from vintage Finnish fabrics and is constantly on the hunt for rare, vintage fabrics, which she uses to create adorable pieces with individuality and flair. I’m personally a fan of the wide-eyed owls with their cute, pondering expressions.

Chemicals here, chemicals there, chemicals everywhere! When did life get so messy? Perfume designer Olivia Giacobetti addressed this when she created a line of 100 percent certified organic fragrances free of all the chemicals that aggravate the skin. Her label Honore des Pres has been creating organic perfumes made of natural essences and has recently launched the ‘I Love NY’ fragrance collection featuring ‘Love Coco’, ‘Vamp a NY’ and ‘I love les Carottes’. Not only is she ecological and organic, but also the designs reflect the eco-conscious nature of the perfumes. The packaging won a prize for best design (our favourite is the coffee take-away cup bottle!)
